About ACE

ACE was founded in 2004. At that time the primary concern of ACE’s members was a proposal to allow an increase of downtown building heights. ACE successfully convinced the City Council that the increase in building heights would devalue the sense and feeling of a ‘small town’ that gives Edmonds its uniqueness and picturesque charm.

Over the past several years, ACE has offered and continues to offer itself as a source of information, ideas and solutions to land use issues that face the City of Edmonds and its citizen. Some of ACE’s members serve on city commissions, committees, and city council, while others are active in civic groups; giving ACE the opportunity to be both a partner and leader in solving the future challenges of Edmonds’ growth and development.

Currently, ACE is discussing various ideas and ‘how to’ approaches concerning the redevelopment of the Waterfront area including Harbor Square and the old Safeway store with its adjacent strip mall. Also, ACE continues to explore ways to expand the economic possibilities of the lower Main Street downtown and upper Main Street/5 Corners areas.

We, the membership of ACE, invite you to join us in our efforts to help Edmonds grow both commercially and economically and to become a stronger and sustainable community. Add your voice and ideas to retain those things that make Edmonds a unique place to visit: vibrant waterfront, its numerous venues, a wide variety of bistros and restaurants, and numerous cultural events, as well as being a great place to work and raise a family.

WHAT DO WE DO TO ACCOMPLISH OUR GOALS?

  1. Do the due diligence on the land use proposals and research the potential benefits of those proposals.
  2. Communicate to both individuals and civic action groups any information regarding the proposed development of the land and the possible effects, both good and bad, on the city of Edmonds
  3. Meet regularly to discuss proposed land use development and other significant issues facing the city..
  4. Invite and provide a forum for citizen discussion so that ideas and solutions can be examined, developed and recommended to the commissions, boards and the city council.
  5. When it is appropriate, we provide updated information to and, when possible, partner with, the various city departments during their decision making process.
